Implementation of the Simplified Trade Regime
Implementation of the Simplified Trade Regime for small cross-border traders started at various borders. The arrangement helps to curb some of the problems faced by cross-border traders. Under this arrangement, goods imported under the STR are free of customs import duty and go through a simplified customs procedure. Cross border trade associations have been established, equipment procured and trade information desks set up at major export centres to ease cross-border trade. The Government is in the process of mobilising funds to ensure that construction of all the export zones is completed within 10 years.
