Domestication of Regional Harmonized Standards

The Project supported a study which identified that Uganda has adopted 55% (i.e. 205) of the COMESA Harmonised Standards and 58% (i.e. 733) of EAC standards. The study also identified the challenges which have hindered the adoption of some of the standards and proposed interventions to address the challenges. The Project also supported a meeting of experts who reviewed and adopted the study report and developed a way forward for the Government, Regional harmonised standards of EAC and COMESA have been reviewed and adopted by Uganda. As a result Uganda is implementing 100% COMESA harmonised Standards based on the WTO TBT agreement. Uganda has adopted all the 222 EAC standards harmonised in 2013-2014. Support will be directed towards the domestication process of regionally harmonized standards.
