Targeted Activities
Implementation of the COMESA Customs Union
The project will support internal consultations on participation of Uganda into the COMESA Customs Union. The project will also facilitate capacity building to the private sector on issues of compliance to the regional legal regime especially in respect to the EAC and COMESA Customs Union
Implementation of Free Trade Area
The project will support development of FTA instruments and related capacity building activities including public awareness. Under this component the project will contribute to the Border Market Program aims at positioning the country to harness regional market opportunities.
Adoption of the Competition Policy and Law
The project will support the domestication of the regional competition regimes i.e the COMESA Competition Regulations and the EAC Competition Act. Activities will include finalizing the process of developing the policy and enacting the law.
Liberalization of Trade in Services
The RIIP support to Uganda will facilitate the Development of the National Trade in Services Policy and finalization of the country’s schedule of commitments which were submitted to COMESA.
Formalization and enhancement of small-scale cross border trade
The RIIP project will support implementation of the Simplified Trade Regime (STR).
Establishing NIMC
Establishing a National Inter-Ministerial Committee (NIMC) to monitor implementation of the regional programs:
Implementation of Regional Harmonized Standards
Support will be directed towards the domestication process of regionally harmonized standards.
Ratification of the COMESA Common Investment Area Agreement
Support will go towards domestication process of the Investment Agreement.
